Leading-Edge Technology That Optimizes Data to Knowledge to TransformationOSIsoft

Manila, PHILIPPINES, July 27, 2016 – OSIsoft, a global leader enabling operational intelligence, today showcases technology tools that empowers local organizations to boost its operational efficiency and business competitiveness through streamlined and intelligent data collection and processing.

Through its PI System™, OSIsoft takes data-driven operational intelligence and delivers the right data, to the right people in the organization, at the right time. PI System facilitates the collection, analysis, visualization and sharing of large amounts of high-fidelity, time-series data from multiple sources to people and systems across all operations.

“OSIsoft developed the PI System to capture all of the data streaming from equipment, sensors and other operational equipment and serves it up in a coherent way so you can save money, reduce energy, improve productivity or make better long term decisions. By accessing key data and insights, the PI System has helped leading companies achieve greater operational improvements and breakthroughs that lead ultimately to comprehensive business transformation.” says Martin Otterson, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Industry, OSIsoft.

From data to knowledge to transformation

Operational Intelligence (OI) extracts data from operational processes, quickly analyzes them, then feeds them back into the process to improve outcomes. OI technology has resulted in energy efficiency in the mining industry, optimizing drilling parameters in oil & gas production and helped avoid catastrophic failures in the power infrastructure.

With the PI System, companies can move from complexity to simplicity, from asset and process intelligence to operational intelligence. The system’s highly scalable, open data infrastructure empowers enterprises in real time, transforming operational data into actionable knowledge and business transformation.

Business transformation starts here

A typical enterprise will have critical data residing in multiple incompatible systems across the enterprise. It’s a complex problem with a surprisingly simple solution – the PI System. Quick and easy to install, collect data from and build upon, the PI System quickly reveals new ways to streamline processes and drive continuous improvements.

PI System’s iteration process involves Capture à Searchà Analyze à Visualize àShare. Each step leads to a deeper understanding of what’s been done and what’s currently happening – enabling organizations to transform from reactive to proactive decision making.

It’s a process that never stops, that constantly uncovers opportunities to find new value by:

  • optimizing processes
  • elevating quality
  • increasing asset health and uptime
  • improving energy efficiency
  • managing risk and regulatory compliance
  • advancing safety performance

Making a Difference

Most other companies that manage Internet of Things (IoT) data don’t deal in operational data. They generally take in data from other software applications.

If you put operational data straight into a data warehouse, it would take hours to reconstruct. Most people don’t have data scientists on demand.

With the PI System, data is organized in a way that makes sense. Martin Otterson, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Industry, OSIsoft explains, “You can see how one piece of equipment performed over several years, how it compared to other similar pieces of equipment, or what happens if it goes down or needs repairs. You get deep, real-time insight into operations. In fact, many companies use the PI System to bring in OT data.”

With key business solutions in place, companies are prepared to achieve continuous operational excellence and ongoing sustainability in virtually any competitive environment.

OSIsoft is proud of its global track record of 1.5 billion plus sensors, 5000 plus customers including Saudi Aramco, Chevron, J&J, Norvartis, Kelloggs, PG&E, Duke Energy and others.

Philippine experience

Maynilad is the water agency for Manila. It serves millions of customers over 540 square kilometres and manages nearly 7,500 kilometers of water and sewer pipes and 19 reservoirs.

In 2007, nearly 20% of the citizens in its service territory could not even get service, roughly had did not have 24-hour service and over half did not have sufficient pressure. It was also clear that Maynilad did not have the funds to upgrade its capital infrastructure: the cost of pipes had increased by 56%.

As part of an operational overhaul using PI System, the company pursued an aggressive program to monitor metrics like water flows while mapping consumption against its geographies.  By 2013, it was servicing 94.7% percent of its customers, 97% had 24 hour service and 99% had sufficient pressure. At the same time, Maynilad recovered 640 million liters of treated water, thereby reducing losses by 27% while increasing its customer base from 6.4 million to 9 million.  Water was made with software.
