MANILA, Philippines, 10 September 2018 – The #SchoolSpirit is alive again on Twitter as students and UAAP sports fans joined the opening of the much-awaited intercollegiate sports event in the country, the #UAAPSeason81.

 

Fans turn over to Twitter to express their #SchoolPride and get updated on #WhatsHappening from pep rallies, announcement of athlete rosters to the grand opening. Below is a heat map showing how the opening day conversation unfolded on Twitter around the world last Friday.

 

The UAAP sports fans have been waiting for this event as they unite on Twitter to launch their official hashtags to support their rooting teams and share their pep rally moments.

De La Salle University did their #AnimoRally differently as they remembered the LaSallian Filipino Olympian Yan Lariba (@supersaiYAAAN) who passed away last September 2, 2018. DLSU’s official hashtag #4LaSalleYAN was dedicated to her and united all LaSallians on Twitter to support the Green Archers and gratefulness to Yan Lariba.

 

 

Every year the UAAP is getting better and better. This year, UAAP sports fans witnessed a star-studded opening with performances of James Reid (@tellemjaye), Sponge Cola (@sponge_cola), to MINZI of 2NE1 (@mingkki21)  and the two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry (@StephenCurry30) who led the oath-taking ceremony.

The UAAP sports fans are #shookt on National University’s grand opening that raise the standard and let the people expect a bigger opening in the next season.

 

After the big opening, The much-awaited men’s basketball tournament kick-off with the first games between the University of the Philippines (@upmbt) and University of the East (@UERW_OFFICIAL) and the NU Bulldogs and the UST Growling Tigers . UP Fighting Maroons and NU Bulldogs fans extended their all out support to the winning teams and share their favorite moments on Twitter.

 

As UP Fighting Maroons (@upmbt) and NU Bulldogs won the first games in the men’s basketball tournament, fans also witnessed how Adamson Soaring Falcons and FEU Tamaraws won over Ateneo Blue Eagles and DLSU Green Archers respectively in the men’s basketball tournament on Sunday.

 

With the spin and grit during the men’s basketball tournament, UAAP Sports Fans are already excited to wit in the season.
