Philippines vendors and service providers look to Asia’s top ICT event for comprehensive networking, product sourcing and knowledge-exchange

PHILIPPINES, 25 February 2010 – CommunicAsia2010, the most established infocomm technology (ICT) event in Asia, has seen more than 80 per cent of its exhibition show floor taken up with over four months to go to the event.  Companies and organisations from over 55 countries and regions will be present when the predominant global business networking platform for the industry in the region opens at the Singapore Expo from 15 – 18 June 2010.

Philippines ICT Industry Sees Rosy Future

A recent study by IDC predicts the ICT landscape in the Philippines this year will be driven by recovery of its ICT spending  – an estimated US$3.14 and $3.81 billion in total IT and telecommunication market spending respectively by end of 2010.

IDC has earmarked several push factors that will shape the Southeast Asia (SEA) region – including the Philippines — in 2010, as it is the year of post-crisis transformations with service providers and end-users racing to capture opportunities from recovering economies.  The overall ICT landscape is again open to investment as both enterprise and consumer segments turn to embrace new technologies, such as cloud computing, 4G and FTTx, and adopt buzz-strategies like social media networking to meet ever growing needs and objectives.

Given the promising prospects, ICT players from the Philippines are looking to CommunicAsia2010 and BroadcastAsia2010 as ideal platforms to seek and share skills, tools and best practices that can further enhance the country’s telecommunications and broadcast space.

CommunicAsia2010 and BroadcastAsia2010 are expected to boast at least 58,000 square metres of exhibition space.  Visitors to the shows this year will get to witness the latest technology innovations demonstrated by 2,000 multi-national corporations and small and medium enterprises.  33 international group pavilions will be spread across the show floor, reflecting the push by governments and industry bodies to expand their footprint into Asia.  First time participants include a group from Bangladesh and another led by India’s Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC).

This one-of-its-kind trade event brings the most comprehensive showcase of convergent technologies for the infocomm, media and broadcasting industries to Asia.  “The unique co-location of CommunicAsia2010 and BroadcastAsia2010 presents the only platform of its kind that aptly addresses the convergence of telecommunications and broadcasting and brings together business leaders, government officials and trade professionals to network, discuss critical industry issues and explore opportunities for growth,” said Mr. Victor Wong, Project Director of Communications Events from show organiser, Singapore Exhibition Services.

“Digital media, mobile applications and other emerging technologies are driving Philippines’  traditional industry players to rethink their business models and explore cross-industry collaborations to stay relevant in this dynamic environment; our established events are well positioned to meet these needs.”

The strong response received for CommunicAsia2010 reflects the event’s reputation as the premier launch pad in Asia for the global ICT community.  Top returning exhibitors to date include leading satellite companies such as Asia Broadcast Satellite, Inmarsat, Intelsat and MEASAT; Samsung Electronics from the mobile space; leading telecom service providers such as Telekom Malaysia and PCCW Global; and key infrastructure solutions providers Huawei, Powerwave Technologies and ZTE.  From the Philippines, Mabuhay Satellite Corporation, an exhibitor in 2009, has confirmed its return to CommunicAsia2010.

Highlights of CommunicAsia2010

In tandem with current market trends, this year’s CommunicAsia, with support of the Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP), will have a new Developer Pavilion featuring the latest mobile applications and WIPJam sessions – interactive discussions that open up the mobile ecosystem and connect developers with industry experts and decision makers.

Further new highlights to be added to the CommunicAsia2010 exhibition show floor are two other new technology clusters – FTTx and Sustainable ICT – to address new growth opportunities in Asia.   Armed with support from the FTTH Council Asia Pacific, the FTTx cluster will be devoted to examining the latest fibre deployments and services.  The Sustainable ICT cluster will demonstrate how pioneering technologies and unique sustainable ICT projects can enable businesses to effectively contribute to a low carbon economy.

At the CommunicAsia2010 Summit, new conference sessions such as Mobile Value Added Services (VAS), Cloud Computing, Marketing through Social Networking and Green IT will be introduced to drive active discussions on topics and issues relevant to industry players.

EnterpriseIT2010, will once again be held in conjunction with CommunicAsia2010 to address the convergence of technology and showcase innovative enterprise solutions that meet the evolving needs of businesses.  Exhibitors from this segment offer a breadth of solutions from network security to managed services to telepresence, and include companies like AEP Networks, Extreme Networks, Nete2 Asia, NComputing, Webvisions, QNO Technology, OPUS IT, Sai Infosystem and TANDBERG.

Enthusiastic exhibitor participation and new exciting exhibition features have declared CommunicAsia’s robust health for 2010; attesting its strong relevance to the ICT industry and assurance that visitors will be treated to an even more successful show this year.
