As part of its annual sponsorship of Smart Communications’ 11th Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) Innovation and Excellence Awards, Ericsson recently presented the Ericsson Networked Society Award to the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM).

The Networked Society Award was given to PLM in recognition of their Smart Reserve project, which was also named as a finalist in the Smart SWEEP Awards.  Smart Reserve is a Cloud-based application designed to automate bus reservations for daily commuters via SMS or a mobile application using electronic tickets (E-tickets).  The proposed system will solve the problem of thousands of commuters each day who are faced with long waiting times, and improve the  allocation of buses in transport terminals.

The 11th Smart SWEEP Awards were launched by Smart late last year and for the first time, incorporated a mobile apps competition open to all college students nationwide.
