  • Industry-leading performance on the smallest site footprint with the lowest energy consumption nets recognition from world leading experts
  • Modular system enables mobile operators to address growth opportunities and transform their networks by leveraging a multi-standard, multi-band and multi-layer architecture

Ericsson’s (NASDAQ: ERIC) Radio System was recognized by the GSMA with the Global Mobile Award for Best Mobile Infrastructure. The mobile industry’s longest established awards platform showcases the value that mobility brings to users, industries, businesses, communities and economies. Winners are selected by a panel of independent judges, typically comprising leading industry and subject matter experts, analysts, journalists and academics and in some cases mobile operator representatives.

Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA, says: “With more than 930 entries this year – a new record – the competition is greater than ever, reflecting the tremendous diversity and pace of innovation across the mobile world. We are particularly excited to be celebrating the 21st year of the awards with a dynamic new format that will recognize and honor achievement throughout Mobile World Congress.”

Available since third quarter 2015, Ericsson Radio System consists of hardware and software for radio, baseband, power, antenna, enclosure and site solutions, the integrated industry-leading MINI-LINK portfolio for microwave transmission and a fully integrated IP Router portfolio, all managed by the same management system.

The industry’s most compact radios are 50 percent smaller and lighter than previous products and enable more flexible and cost-efficient site designs.

Ericsson Radio System also includes the industry’s most powerful baseband with twice the capacity compared to previous products, enabling operators to build distributed and centralized baseband configurations supporting high-capacity multi-standard, multi-band and multi-layer architectures. Ericsson’s Many-Core Baseband Architecture, at the heart of the new baseband, supports massive multi-core processing with ten times the energy efficiency of commercial, off-the-shelf processors. Multi-standard operation is supported, including carrier aggregation of combined LTE TDD and FDD operation.
