Video game publisher and distributor X-Play Online Games, Inc. recently concluded the first few elimination rounds of the 1st NBA 2K13 Pilipinas Cup Elimination held at iTech North Edsa.

Scoring the most in the first and second elimination rounds held recently, were Lester Velasco and San Beda accountancy student, Christian James Alba. Both took home Php5,000 cash, NBA 2K13 merchandise, and a shot at championship round set in March.

Launched in January, the NBA 2K13 Pilipinas Cup tournament serves as a venue for basketball enthusiasts who are eager to test their skills in NBA 2K13. A total of 64 slots were allotted for each of the 8 elimination rounds; from which 16 winners will be taken for the Championship round.

Meanwhile at the Finals, a best-of-three match will happen between the top two players from the championship round. The winner takes home Php 50,000, special merchandise from NBA 2K13, and of course the honor of being the very 1st NBA 2K13 Pilipinas Cup Champion.

First time

It was as if fate intervened to this basketball enthusiast because he was not even registered to play in the first place. Velasco said that he just went to the venue to check out the action–that is until a slot opened because a registered gamer did not show up.

“This was actually my first time to ever compete in an online tournament–and what a first time it is!” Velasco Shared. “It was tough at first being my first time, but I believe my skills really help me get to number one.”

Velasco said that he will have to train almost every day until the championship to keep his A-level game going.”You really have keep on practicing to improve your skills. Focus is also important,” he said.

Meanwhile, Alba is no stranger to the NBA 2K tournament scene, which helped him bag the second leg of Pilipinas Cup.

“My first and second games were just a walk in the park since I was able to outlast my opponents with a double digit margin,” shared Alba. “But the competition was really tough since most of the players are of the same skill and talent level.”

But it was still his game in the end. “It felt great to win a tournament with over 40 players because I was able to prove myself that I could be one of the best 2K players in the country,” Alba added. “Practice still makes perfect though—I still have to keep playing to master at least three or four teams. I also need to watch actual plays on TV to have a feel of their style of play in NBA 2K.”

Four more legs await those who want in on the action, with registrations opening at www.xplay.com.ph every week. This Saturday, Feb 9, eliminations continue at Cynetzone Gaming in SM Cubao, so head on over to experience the high level of competition and excitement.

The Pilipinas Cup NBA 2K13 Tournament culminates in the Finals, which will be held on March 19 at the SM Annex to determine the best player in the Metro and it just might be you.
