MANILA, Philippines – 03 December 2015 – X-Play Online Games founder and chief executive officer Enrique Y. Gonzalez returns to a familiar ground, aiming give the online gaming industry the jolt it needs with the fast-paced and free-to-play action sports PC online game NBA2K Online.

“We’ve been waiting for the next big online game title for years and now we have it in NBA2K Online,” Gonzales said. “If we look at the current Philippine online gaming market, it is now saturated with FPS (first person shooter) and MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) games. We’re looking to insert more excitement through an online sports game.”

Gonzalez was at the forefront when the online gaming industry broke out a decade ago. His time at the helm of IP e-Games (e-Games) was marked with his innovative and out-of-the-box ideas, as seen through the successful online game titles in RAN Online, Cabal Online, O2 Jam, and Audition Dance Battle.

However, Gonzalez is best remembered for his free-to-play (F2P) business build that proved to be ground-breaking and helped increase the popularity and profitability of e-Games titles. The radical move was soon adopted by the local online gaming industry and is still being used today.

When e-Games was merged with Level Up! Philippine to form Playweb Games in 2012, Gonzalez went on to position X-Play Online Games as a distributor of boxed game titles. Among its partners were Blizzard Entertainment and Take Two Interactive.

“The F2P build was a calculated gamble but it paid off handsomely for us,” Gonzalez said. “We’re taking a similar stake with NBA2K Online.”

NBA2K Online combines the best of what the NBA2K series has to offer with immersive gameplay, rich player customization, and a massive online community. NBA2K Online is X-Play‘s initial foray into online gaming.

“We think NBA2K Online perfectly suits the current profile of local gamers,” Gonzalez said. “Players are looking for quick but aggressive PvP (player-versus-player) matches and that is what the game exactly offers.”

According to Gonzalez, the end game for NBA2K Online is for it to carve a significant market in the competitive local e-sports scene, citing the Filipinos’ innate love for both basketball and online gaming.

“We’re banking on these two facets to enable NBA2K Online reach the popularity achieved by the game titles that we’ve launched way back,” Gonzalez said. “And of course, we’re adding a dash of luck and touch that we’ve been known for. We’re bringing fun back to the online gaming scene. We’re changing the game once again.”
